Onboard Space simplifies sailing, making it more accessible and connected for everyone who wants to spend time at sea.
Why We Built It
We built Onboard Space with two simple goals.
We wanted to make access to real sailing opportunities faster and more transparent for both crew and boat owners.
- Help crew members discover sailing opportunities worldwide and apply instantly.
- Help boat owners publish opportunities and manage crew applications directly.
Our aim is to make it easier for the sailing community to connect, build trust, and get out sailing.
Our Story
It began on a pontoon, watching sailors, often boat hitchhikers, walking the docks in search of a yacht heading offshore.
They came from every corner of the globe, but they all shared the same spirit: a deep love for the ocean and a thirst for adventure.
Sailing opportunities like these are only possible through the generosity of boat owners who open their homes and welcome others aboard. That spirit of trust is what makes this community unique.
We created Onboard Space to bridge the gap between those searching for a berth and those offering one. While we built the platform, it was the sailing community that truly brought it to life. We built the platform; you got us started.
About the Founder
My journey began far from the sea, in administration and accounts roles within the City of London, but my heart was always on the water. I eventually made the decision to set that career aside to follow the call of the ocean.
Since then, I have logged more than 15,000 nautical miles across the Mediterranean, Caribbean, Atlantic, and Pacific, including an unforgettable crossing from Panama to New Zealand.
In my late thirties, I transitioned to living on board and sailing full-time. During this time, I purchased my own 40ft Jeanneau, gaining firsthand insight into the realities of boat ownership, maintenance, and the true meaning of being part of a crew. My time working in a boatyard further sharpened my practical understanding of how vessels are built, refitted, and operated. Over the years, I have cruised through Greece, Italy, Tunisia, Morocco, and Spain, living at sea for long periods and learning through real-world experience.
Sailing is deeply personal to me. My dad was a Chief Officer in the Merchant Navy; through him, I developed a lifelong respect for the ocean and a permanent connection to it.
I have weathered heavy storms and drifted through mirror-calm passages; I have stood night watches under vast, star-filled skies and shared breathless moments with dolphins and whales.
Along the way, I have met incredible people from every corner of the world: from solo circumnavigators and delivery skippers to regatta crews and superyacht professionals. I have shared the water with instructors and offshore fishermen, as well as cruising families, charter guests, and liveaboards.
The sailing community is, without doubt, one of the most diverse and inspiring in the world.
